What is moving the market

  • Sunflower oil prices fell for a third consecutive month in September, while palm oil rose for a fourth month; the FAO Vegetable Oil Price Index stood at 198.6 points, 18.3 % above a year earlier (FAO, 2 October 2026).
  • By 12 October Ukraine had harvested 7.44 million tonnes of sunflower seed from about 66 % of the forecast area; USDA puts the 2026 crop at 13 million tonnes. Russia expects a record crop of 19.1–21 million tonnes, and wholesale sunflower oil prices in Krasnodar fell from RUB 104,000 per tonne in July to RUB 72,000–77,000 in September (UkrAgroConsult, 12, 14 and 20 October 2026).
  • Export logistics remain the bottleneck: the industry expects Ukrainian sunflower oil shipments of about 300,000 tonnes a month from October to March, almost half the usual pace. The government has given edible oils temporary priority on the railways, in sea and river ports (including passage through the Sulina Canal) and at the border, for the duration of martial law and no longer than two years (UkrAgroConsult, 1 and 21 October 2026).
  • India imported 109,000 tonnes of sunflower oil in September, against 252,000 a year earlier. It removed its basic duty on crude sunflower oil in late September (from 10 % to 0 %), and its industry association expects imports to rise 30 % to 3.5 million tonnes in 2026/27 (UkrAgroConsult, 22 October 2026; Oils & Fats International, 7 October 2026).
  • Black Sea and Danube shipping remain constrained: about 80 vessels were waiting to pass the Sulina Canal towards Ukraine's Danube ports, Ukraine's agriculture ministry puts farm exports at 38 % of normal volumes, and Russia has not accepted any of the options discussed with Türkiye, India and Egypt to protect merchant ships (UkrAgroConsult, 19 and 21 October 2026).
  • EU food rules: member states approved in May a maximum level of 2.0 mg/kg of mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH) for sunflower, rapeseed, soybean, maize and linseed oils; formal adoption was expected in the autumn, with application planned from 1 January 2027 (Oils & Fats International, 14 August 2026).

For buyers: Product is available at origin, but delivery windows depend on logistics. Allow extra lead time and state your destination and delivery window when you request a quotation, so the route can be confirmed.

From market reference to your quotation

A market reference is a starting point, not a delivered price. The quotation adds the grade and specification, the format (bulk or PET), the quantity, the route to your destination and the Incoterms® 2020 rule.
